Incessant rainfall lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu, mainly Chennai on Sunday leading to vehicles lining up as far as a man’s eye can reach. Traffic snarls disrupted day-to-day functioning of several people in the southern state.
District administrations announced holiday for schools and colleges in Nagapattinam, Kilver Taluk, Villupuram and Cuddalore. While schools in Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Kallakurichi have ordered schools to be shut in view of the continuous rain.

Tamil Nadu is likely to receive more rain over several of its districts for the next days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Fishermen also did not venture into the sea owing to the heavy rainfall in the southwest Bay of Bengal.
“Moderate rain is very likely to continue at isolated places over Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal area,” an ANI report said.

The weather department forecast light to moderate rain with occasional intensified rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightining over Tamil Nadu, Pudhucherru and Karaikal’s coastal districts.
Powerful easterly or northeasterly winds are present at the lower tropospheric levels with conditions favouring moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal over Tamil Nadu, which leads to the current rainfall spell over the state and its surrounding regions.
Earlier last year, Tamil Nadu lived through flood-causing torrential rainfall, Cyclone Michaung and heavy rains causing destruction in the southern state. People had to suffer heavy losses in terms of personal property, family and public property as well.
