20 Dot Balls, Most Economical Spell, Bowling Figures of 2/4: Uganda's 43-Year-Old Frank Nsubuga Creates World Cup History

In his first ever T20 World Cup match, Uganda’s Frank Nsubuga etched his name in cricket history with the most economical spell in the competition’s history. The offspinner produced a memorable spell to finish with incredible bowling figures of 2/4 from four overs as Uganda bowled out PNG for 77 runs in 19.1 overs in a Group C fixture of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup.

Introduced in the 9th over, the allrounder conceded just two runs in his first over before striking with the second delivery of his second over to clean up Charles Amini on 5. That over turned out to be a wicket-maiden.

Nsubuga’s next over also turned out to be a wicket-maiden as he sent back Hiri Hiri by pinning him in front on 15. He then finished his spell with another quiet over, allowing two runs in it to create a new record.

At 43 years, the Ugandan international is the second oldest player to appear in a T20 World Cup match and he was chuffed to bits after a remarkable performance in his maiden appearance at the stage.

“My first big tournament, first world cup and to finish with figures of 2/4, I’m still pinching myself,” Nsubuga during a mid-innings chat with the broadcasters.

“You just enjoy yourself, you never know what’s coming for you. I’m looking after the young boys, they’re looking after me, so it’s been good understanding within the team that’s helping us,” he added.

The contest is being played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana and Nsubuga says the pitch isn’t easy to bat on. “The ball wasn’t coming on and I bowled on the slower side. We needed to bowl wicket-to-wicket,” he added.

Uganda are playing in their maiden T20 World Cup and faced former champion Australia to start their campaign, suffering a 125-run defeat.
