The carnage unfolded in the fifth over at the Rose Bowl when Head creamed the first two deliveries for as many fours. He followed with a hat-trick of sixes and finished the over with a four.

After conceding two fours, Curran decided to try short balls against Head. The Australian opener responded with a pull shot and sent the ball into the crowd over the square-leg region. The next shot was also a treat with Head clearing the fence around the mid-wicket region. For his third six,, Head targeted the off-side boundary.

Powered his explosive knock, Australia added 86 runs in the powerplay itself.

Head struck 59 runs off just 23 balls before being dismissed by Saqib Mahmood on the final delivery of the sixth over. His blazing show comprised eight fours and four sixes.

Aussie opener Matthew Short also enjoyed an impressive outing and assisted Head in building the foundation. Short missed out on a half-century by nine runs and hit two sixes and four fours off just 26 balls.

Among the next Australian batters, only Josh Inglis could breach the 20-run mark while others were dismissed early. The visitors posted 179 runs in 19.3 overs.

England were four-wicket down scoring 52 runs in the first eight overs. Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran tried to revive the innings with a 54-run partnership but got no support from others.

For Australia, Sean Abbott took a three-wicket haul while Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa claimed two scalps each. England fell 28 runs short of the target.
