50/0 to 103 All-Out: Siddharth Desai Runs Riot with a 7-wicket Haul as Gujarat Beat Karnataka by 7 Runs | WATCH
Karnataka were 50/0 in the chase of 110 but Desai bagged a 7-wicket haul to help Gujarat register a 7-run win in Ahmedabad.

Gujarat registered an unlikely victory in the second round of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 on Monday, stealing a 6-run win against Karnataka at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Karnataka were poised at 50 for no loss while chasing 110 and inching closer to a dominant win. But left-arm spinner Siddharth Desai launched an assault against Mayank Agarwal & Co with a 7-wicket haul as Ahmedabad folded Karnataka for 103 in the next 17 overs.

The final day of the Gujarat vs Karnataka encounter got underway with the hosts resuming innings at 171 for 7 with a 61-run in the second innings. They added 48 more to their overnight score, setting Karnataka a lowly 110-run target.

In reply, Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal produced a terrific start, adding 50 runs for the first wicket. But in the 10th over, both Karnataka openers fell prey to Desai which open the floodgates for the visitors. Only 3 out of 11 batters could score in double digits and as many secured ducks in Karnataka’s second essay.

While Desai returned figures of 7 for 42, and an overall match haul of 9/16, off-spinner Rinkesh Vaghela picked up 3 for 38 in the second innings.

Earlier Karnataka produced a solid bowling performance, led by medium-pacer Vasuki Koushik’s three-wicket haul, to leave Gujarat at 171 for seven on day 3 of their Group C Ranji Trophy match here on Sunday. Resuming at 328 for 5, Karnataka managed to add another 46 runs before being shot out for 374 to earn a 110-run lead. Gujarat were all-out for 264 in their first innings.

In their second essay, Gujarat began on a shaky note, losing four wickets for 52. Manan Hingrajia (56) and Kshitij Patel (26) then put on a 57-run stand for the fifth wicket. Koushik eventually broke the partnership, getting rid of Kshitij, while Rohit Kumar (2/42) dismissed Hingrajia.
