Babar Azam will be in action for Pakistan against Bangladesh during a two-match Test series that starts on Wednesday at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Babar Azam will be back in action for Pakistan after more than two months on Wednesday (August 21). He will take the field for the Shan Masood-led side during the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh. The series opener is scheduled to take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. During the first Test, 29-year-old Babar will have a chance to create history and become the first Pakistani and third batter overall in the world to score 4000 runs in all three formats of the game.

Babar, who made his international debut for Pakistan during an ODI match against Zimbabwe in Lahore on May 31, 2015, has 3898 runs to his name in 52 Tests played so far. He needs 102 more runs to cross the 4000-run mark in the five-day format of the game.

He has also scored 5729 runs in 117 ODIs and 4145 runs in 123 T20Is for the Men in Green.

Former India captain Virat was the first batter in the world to score 4000 runs in all three formats of the game. He achieved the feat during India’s T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal match against England in Adelaide on November 10. The 35-year-old right-handed batter has 8848, 13906, and 4188 runs to his name in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, respectively.

Indian captain Rohit joined Virat on the list during the T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Ireland in New York on June 5. He has 4137 runs to his name in 59 Tests and has amassed a total of 10,866 runs in 265 ODIs and 4231 runs in 159 T20Is.

Babar to bat at 4

Babar, who stepped down as Pakistan’s Test captain last year, will bat at No. 4 in the first Test. Saim Ayub will open the innings for Pakistan, along with Abdullah Shafique, and captain Shan Masood will come out to bat at No. 3. Pakistan has preferred Mohammad Rizwan over former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed in the playing XI as wicketkeeper-batter, and Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the four-man pace attack.
