'Cannot Hide and Field, But I Can Work Smartly': Ravindra Jadeja Remains Wary of Injury Spell Ahead of 3rd Test
Ravindra Jadeja who is expected to return to the side for the Rajkot Test, will look to work smartly following his hamstring injury.

The Indian team missed the services of their star all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja who had picked up a hamstring injury in the second Test against England but is expected to be available for the upcoming game at Rajkot as the hosts will look to take the lead in the five-match series.

Jadeja is eager to get back on the field and continue delivering performances but remains wary of his current condition. Jadeja had spoken to the media at the press conference ahead of the third test, he said, ”Nothing has changed. We have the same excitement and play with the same pride. The idea is to give my 100 per cent but protect my body. Try not to dive unless absolutely necessary.”

The left-hander revealed that he had become concerned with the run of injuries he has had. His difficult run of injuries began in 2021 when he injured his thumb, forearm, ribs and most recently his hamstring. However, he also acknowledged that due to the amount of cricket being played, it is bound to take its toll on the body.

“It happens (the feeling of frustration creeping in) due to repeated injuries. But these days, there is so much cricket that’s happening. That also plays on the mind,” added Jadeja.

The number one-ranked Test all-rounder remains intent on performing on the field, taking the hard catches, enforcing run-outs and putting pressure on the batters. He commented, “As far as my fielding is concerned, I cannot hide and field. I am always in the hotspot irrespective of the format. So that could also be a reason that the ball comes to me too often. The team expects me to grab a good catch, and affect a run out.”

The 35-year-old has never been shy to throw his body around and put in a dive. Be it to save the runs or take a catch. However, he now believes that taking into account his tendency to get injured, he has to be more careful. He concluded by saying,” I can work a little more smartly on my body and if I can do that I don’t think there’ll be any problems. Then again, there’s no guarantee. I can go out tomorrow and get injured again. You never know.”
