'Don't Have Any Emotions Left': Arshdeep Singh Says 'Nerve-wracking IPL Matches' Reason Why He Didn't Cry After WC Triumph
The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya broke in tears after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup.

There was an emotional outpouring after India defeated South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup with some of the biggest names in the world of cricket not able to hide their tears. Captain Rohit Sharma, batting superstar Virat Kohli and allrounder Hardik Pandya broke into tears with India becoming the world champions after a long wait.

The trio has been part of a few world cup campaigns that ended in a heartbreak for the Indian team and so it was a natural reaction after their frustrating end came to an end.

Arshdeep Singh’s heart was pounding when Suryakumar Yadav took that catch of David Miller at long-off to all but seal India’s victory. However, once the contest got over, the pacer tried crying but wasn’t able to.

“I was very happy. In the IPL, I have played so many nerve-wracking matches for Punjab Kings that I don’t have any emotions left. Mai koshish kar raha tha but yaar aansu nikle nahi (I tried hard but just was not able to cry),” Arshdeep told The Indian Express.

“I watched the legends of the game… Rohit bhai, Virat bhai, who have achieved so much… they just couldn’t control their emotions. I was happy for them. But I don’t know why I didn’t shed a tear,” he added.

South Africa needed 20 runs off the final two overs when Arshdeep came to bowl the 19th over. He might have been nervous but it didn’t impact his bowling as he allowed just four runs in it.

With his job with the ball over, Arshdeep then watched Hardik Pandya from the deep defend 16 runs in the final over and says he had the perfect view to Suryakumar’s stunning catch.

“My heart was pounding. I was standing at sweeper cover. I got the perfect side angle view. When Miller connected, I thought it would go the distance but like in a movie it started to dip. The way Surya bhai (Suryakumar Yadav) judged the catch… As he said in the post-match interviews he just wanted to save the six, but then he realised that he had the chance to take that catch. He took that risk, very brave of him,” Arshdeep said.
