The highly-charged ICC T20 World Cup Group A game between India and Pakistan is in full swing as Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first. Babar Azam and Co. managed to remove Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early in the innings which led to Rishabh Pant and promoted Axar Patel to the crease.

Former Team India player Wasim Jaffer took a dig at Pakistan after all-rounder Axar was promoted up the order with a post on his social media handle that read, “In case you’re wondering why Axar Patel was promoted today ”

Jaffer’s sly reference points to Pakistan losing out on their tournament opener against hosts USA a couple of days ago. The tournament debutants USA pulled off a major upset as they edged out the seasoned Pakistan with a 5-run win in the Super Over.

Pakistan were subjected to incessant trolling on the internet after they succumbed to the USA, who were propelled to a famous win thanks to pacer Saurabh Netravalkar, an engineer by qualification and not a full-time cricketer.

However, the jokes were taken in their stride by the spirited Pakistani crowd as one group of fans even displayed a poster that read, “I hope India doesn’t have any engineers’!

The marquee fixture was delayed a bit due to showers in New York, but thankfully no overs were lost due to the rain. India lost a couple of wickets early before Axar and Pant steadied the innings with a 38-run stand before Axar was cleaned out by Naseem after having made 20 runs off 18 deliveries.

Suryakumar Yadav was the next to go as he lofted a catch straight down the throat of Mohammad Amir off Haris Rauf’s over after adding 7 runs off 8 balls. Shivam Dube followed his teammate back to the dugout as the southpaw was dismissed for just 3 off 9 by Naseem.

Amir got in on the act with a twin strike as he removed Pant for 42 off 31 and Ravindra Jadeja in consecutive deliveries to leave India reeling at 97/7 in the 15th over.
