Glenn Maxwell Set to Miss Another IPL 2024 Match for RCB, This Time Due to a 'Hip Strain'
Struggling Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be without Glenn Maxwell for the second game in a row.

Glenn Maxwell has a ‘hip strain’ which will keep him out of action for at least one more match of the IPL 2024. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru allrounder earlier revealed he’s taken a physical and mental break from the league following a series of poor scores which have coincided with the team’s horror show in the ongoing season.

In six matches so far, Maxwell have mustered 32 runs at 5.33.

“I’ve actually got a little bit of a hip strain so I’ve got a few more days off and during recovery,” Maxwell said on ESPN’s ‘Around the Wicket’.

“So I’ve got a little period here where I’m still training, still trying to get myself right. If there is a spot that becomes available, I’ll obviously put my hand up and take it,” he added.

Maxwell says there’s no timeline of his return adding his performances this season aren’t good enough for claiming a spot in RCB’s playing XI.

“It’s not one of those things where I’ve set a date that I’ll be out for three games then I’ll come back whenever I’m ready. That’s that’s not how it works. I haven’t been at a level that’s good enough to warrant a spot on the side this year,” he said.

Meanwhile, Maxwell has joined Washington Freedom and will head into the Major League Cricket immediately after the T20 World Cup

“I’ve been speaking to Ricky Ponting and a few other players a fair bit over the last little period and certainly extremely excited to get stuck in,” he said.

“It’s a tournament that I watched from afar last year and was extremely excited about hopefully playing this tournament one day and luckily enough the timings have aligned this year,” he added.

Maxwell, 35, had revealed he himself pulled out from RCB’s last IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“After the first few games hadn’t gone to plan personally for me, it was a pretty easy decision. I went to Faf and the coaches last game and said it was time to probably try someone else. I have been in this situation before, where you can keep playing and dig yourself into a hole. Now is actually the best time to give myself a mental and physical break,” he said during an interaction with the media.

RCB have managed to win just one match out of seven and are languishing at the bottom of IPL 2024 standings.
