India posted a total of 297 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs against Bangladesh on Saturday (October 12) during the third T20I played in Hyderabad.

India faced Bangladesh in the third and final T20I of the three-match series on Saturday (October 12). In the match played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bat first. The hosts rode on a maiden T20I century from Sanju Samson (111) and Surya’s 75-run knock to post a total of 297 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.

The 298-run target proved too much for the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side, and they could only manage to score 164 for 7 in 20 overs. India won the final match by 133 runs to complete the whitewash of the Bangladeshi team.

By posting a total of 297 runs in the third T20I, India not only managed to score the second highest score in T20Is history but also became the first team in the T20 format of the game to cross the 200-run mark 37 times. The 2024 T20 World Cup winners broke English side Somerset’s record of 36 200+ total in T20s. IPL teams Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are third and fourth with 35 and 33 200+ totals, respectively.

Samson on fire

In the third T20I against Bangladesh, wicketkeeper-batter Samson was on fire, and he top-scored for the hosts by scoring 111 runs from 47 balls. During his stay at the crease, he hammered 11 fours and 8 sixes and added 173 runs for the second wicket with Suryakumar (75 runs from 35 balls).

Samson’s century on Saturday was his first in the shortest format of the game for the Indian team, and it also helped him become the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a century in T20Is. The previous best score by an Indian batter in T20Is was 89, which was scored by Ishan Kishan against Sri Lanka in 2022.

The century by Samson on Saturday is also the first triple-digit score by any batter in 17 T20Is played so far between India and Bangladesh.
