Mumbai Indians (MI) will lock horns with Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday, March 24, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It will be the first time that Hardik Pandya returns to the venue which he called his home ground for two season before a stunning return to MI last year before the auction.
One of the biggest talking points from this game will be about how Pandya leads MI in his first game as new captain of the franchise.
In the off-season, GT traded Pandya to MI in an all-cash deal.
MI then announced the star allrounder as the new captain of the franchise, replacing Rohit Sharma, who had been at the helm since IPL 2013 and led MI to five IPL titles.
The spotlight will be on Pandya who has been entrusted with leadership duties.
The two teams look prepared as they have recruited some exciting players. For GT, all eyes will be on Spencer Johnson, the left-arm quick from Australia. Afghan allrounder Azmatullah Omarzai is also one to watch out for, who might be included in the XI. They have a new captain in Shubman Gill who won the Orange Cap last year.
Talking about MI, the player everyone will be most excited to see in action is South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee, who had a phenomenal World Cup in India in 2023.
However, both teams have also lost key personnel. Mohammed Shami has been ruled out for the entire season, leaving a gaping hole in GT’s bowling attack. MI, too, will have to make do without left-arm pacers Jason Behrendorff and Dilshan Madushanka, who have been replaced by Luke Wood and U19 star Kwena Maphaka, respectively. Star batter Suryakumar Yadav is a doubt for the first few games as well.
