MI captain Hardik Pandya was fined relating to minimum over-rate offences as it was his team’s first offence this season.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the encounter against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday in Mullapur. He has been fined Rs 12 lakhs for his team maintaining a slow over-rate during their thrilling nine-run victory over Punjab Kings.

As per the IPL official release, Pandya was fined relating to minimum over-rate offences as it was his team’s first offence this season.

“Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 18,” the statement read.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the statement added.

Mumbai Indians on Thursday registered a 9-run win over Punjab Kings after Ashutosh Sharma gave the 5-time champions a mighty scare with a sensational 61-run knock. He unleashed a flurry of sixes in his 28-ball knock which brought Punjab from the brink to near the finish line but his dismissal in the 18th over turned the game back in favour of Mumbai Indians.

Punjab, who were left tottering at 17/4 in their chase of 193 , came back roaring through Ashutosh and Shashank Singh (41 off 25) before ending at 183 all-out in 19.1 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav (78) starred with the bat for Mumbai Indians to take them to 192 for seven.

It was Mumbai’s third win in seven games while Punjab’s slide continued with their fifth loss in seven matches. MI rose to seventh from ninth position on the points table following their third win in seven games in IPL 2024, while PBKS dropped a spot to ninth after their fifth defeat. Mumbai Indians next play Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 22.
