The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin with a blast on Friday, March 22. Following the tradition, the cricket extravaganza will be inaugurated at the home of the reigning champions – Chennai Super Kings. The MS Dhoni-led side will open the campaign with a high-voltage face-off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Before the on-field actions, a glittery opening ceremony for the 2024 IPL will take place at Chepauk.
The big-ticket event will feature a star-studded lineup, which has been revealed on X (formerly Twitter). The caption of the post read, “The stage is set, the lights are bright, and the stars are ready to shine at the TATA IPL 2024 Opening Ceremony! Get ready for an unforgettable fusion of cricket and entertainment ft. a stellar lineup.”

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar will entertain the crowd with his energetic dance moves. He will be joined by fellow actor Tiger Shroff, who also performed in the opening ceremony of the recently concluded Women’s Premier League (WPL) in Bengaluru. The duo will be seen together in the upcoming Ali Abbas Zafar directorial – Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.

The IPL 2024 opening ceremony, titled ‘Rise As One’, will also have a musical segment featuring legendary composer AR Rahman, known for his works in blockbuster movies like Dil Se, Roja and Rockstar. Rahman will share the stage with veteran playback singer Sonu Nigam, who is also recognised as ‘Modern Rafi’.

Preparations are in full swing at the Chepauk Stadium, which previously had the privilege to host the IPL opener several times. The tournament organiser and the stadium authority will look to make the occasion more exquisite and entertaining this year. The opening ceremony is expected to feature a lesser show, which was earlier witnessed during the ICC ODI World Cup across venues.

The opening ceremony is slated to begin at 6:30 PM IST, one hour before the inaugural match between CSK and RCB. The event will be televised on the Star Sports Network. Fans can also watch the live streaming on the JioCinema app and website.
