Jonty Rhodes Being Considered to be India's New Fielding Coach - Report
South Africa's fielding icon, Jonty Rhodes is in the reckoning to be India's new fielding coach.

The Indian coaching staff could be bringing in a legend of the sport with Jonty Rhodes, the former South African international being touted to be roped in as India’s next fielding coach.

According to a report by RevSportz, the fielding legend is yet to receive a formal approach but remains one of the names that is being considered. It is suggested that a new coaching staff is set to take over once Rahul Dravid’s stint as a head coach comes to an end following the T20 World Cup 2024.

Rhodes is notoriously famous for being one of the best fielders of his generation. He was part of the Mumbai Indians camp for nine years following which had moved to the Lucknow Super Giants as their fielding coach. He had applied for the role of the India fielding coach but did not make the cut in 2019.

Jonty had earlier revealed that he had applied for India’s fielding coach job. He said, “Yes, I have applied for the position of India’s new fielding coach. My wife and I love the country, and it has already given us so much… We have two children born in India.” He also spoke about adding “a few more things” to the coaching process.

With reports suggesting that Gautam Gambhir is in pole position to take over from Rahul Dravid and the former bringing in his own coaches to handle the Indian team’s coaching affairs, it will be interesting to see how the new team pans out.

However, it is also to be noted that the BCCI has appointed an all-Indian coaching staff since Ravi Shastri was the head coach and Rahul Dravid subsequently. But the BCCI secretary Jay Shah has hinted that this could change. He said,”  “If the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) selects a foreign coach, I can’t interfere”.

Rahul Dravid hopes that he can end his tenure as Team India’s head coach with a title as the Men in Blue led by Rohit Sharma look forward to the Super 8s in the T20 World Cup 2024 and hope that the Indian team can finally get an ICC title.
