India defeated Pakistan by six runs in a low-scoring but tense T20 World Cup Group A encounter at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, where more than 34,000 fans were in attendance at the temporary arena despite the early rain on Sunday.

India now have a comprehensive 7-1 head-to-head lead over Pakistan in Men’s T20 World Cup meetings. Before this result, the last five T20 World Cup games between the two teams had been won by the chasing side.

Pakistan fans were left disappointed yet again after conceding another defeat to their neighbours and arch-rivals.

Momin Saqib, who had gained viral fame with his reactions after Pakistan’s loss to India at the 2019 Champions Trophy, was seen heartbroken yet again.

As for the match, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first on a two-paced pitch where rain interruptions made things difficult for India who struggled to get going and were dismissed for 119.

In response, Mohammad Rizwan laid the platform for the chase with a patient knock of 31 but Pakistan fell short after losing wickets at regular intervals while India’s Jasprit Bumrah (3-14) made crucial breakthroughs and bowled 15 dot balls.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam felt that the 59 dot balls conceded during their chase became the turning point.

“We bowled well. In the batting, we lost back-to-back wickets and consumed too many dot balls. Again, we weren’t up to the mark in the first six,” he said.

The result moved India to the top of Group A with two wins from their opening two matches while Pakistan have zero points.

Earlier in the tournament, India had won their opening match against Ireland by eight wickets at New York earlier this week, but Pakistan lost their first game of the competition in a super over defeat to co-hosts USA at Dallas.
