Australia skipper Pat Cummins has thanked Sunrisers Hyderabad after a historic season in the 2024 Indian Premier League. Cummins arrived in Hyderabad for a fee of 20.75 crores, making him the second most expensive player in the tournament’s history. The Aussie did live up to his jaw-dropping price tag by carrying the 2016 winners to another final which they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders last month. Weeks after the final, Cummins shared a compilation of some of his warm behind-the-scene moments with the Orange Army. In his post’s caption, the Aussie wrote, “Loved my time in Hyderabad for this IPL season. Many special memories made from a great season. One for the books.”
The heartwarming video includes some fun moments where Pat Cummins can be seen cracking jokes with his teammates. His love for cakes was also quite evident in a few clips where the skipper could be seen sneakily cutting himself a few slices. The video also includes glimpses of the Hyderabad skipper's training sessions during the IPL season.
The Orange Army fans ensured that they thanked Pat Cummins for helping them make the IPL 2024 final. One talked about how the new skipper had transformed a Hyderabad placed last in the league table in 2023 to a title contender in 2024. “You came and changed SRH bottom place into 2nd and finals, we should be grateful for you,” he wrote.
Another added, “We all love Patty, see you next year lifting the trophy”.
One said, “Thank you my captain for guiding SRH from the bottom position to finalists. This season I finally got my happiness back after SRH’s performance. You are a revelation, Pat.”
“Can’t wait to see you back in Orange Army jersey again for next season”, another wrote.
“Thank you, Patty, you completely revolutionised SRH. Yeah, we fell short in the final; but still a great season. Waiting till next year,” added one more.
The IPL 2024 season would likely have had less flair without Pat Cummins’ T20 captaincy debut with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Known for his ice-calm composure, the Aussie skipper spearheaded a side that wreaked havoc in the tournament by cracking the 250-run mark three times. Accumulating 18 wickets on an individual level, Cummins guided his team to a second-place finish in the group stage. His side lost the first qualifier to a Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders side by eight wickets. The Hyderabad skipper didn’t back down as they beat the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 for a ticket to Chennai. However, Kolkata proved to be the stronger team on the big stage as the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise won by eight wickets once again for a third IPL crown.
Pat Cummins is now set to feature in Australia’s T20 World Cup 2024 opener against Oman. The match will take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados tomorrow, June 6.
