World No. 1 Test bowler Ravichandran Ashwin, who played a big role in India’s 280-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series, has reserved big praise for star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. According to Ashwin, the 30-year-old right-arm pacer is Kohinoor diamond of Indian cricket at the moment. Like Ashwin, Bumrah was also on fire for India in the series opener against Bangladesh, which was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
While Ashwin scored a century (113) and picked up six wickets for India in the match, Bumrah accounted for the dismissal of four Bangladeshi batters in the first innings and one in the second. It was due to his superb bowling performance that India managed to dismiss Bangladesh for 149 runs in the first inning after posting a total of 376 runs.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, a day after the conclusion of the first India-Bangladesh Test, Ashwin praised Bumrah and said, “Jasprit Bumrah ek fast bowler hai. 145 mein daalte jaata hai itna dhoop mein. Itna mehnat karta hai, aur India ka sabse… Indian cricket mein ek crowned jewel hai. Jaise Kohinoor diamond leke gaye ye log, Indian cricket ka aajkal Kohinoor diamond hai yaar Jasprit Bumrah. Vo jo bolna chah raha hai usko bolne do yaar. Maan lo yaar (Jasprit Bumrah is a fast bowler. He bowls at 145 in the sun. He works so hard, and the best in India… He is a crowned jewel in Indian cricket. Just like these people have taken the Kohinoor diamond, the Kohinoor diamond of Indian cricket nowadays is Jasprit Bumrah. Whatever he wants to say, let him say it. Accept it.)

Bumrah, who made his comeback to competitive cricket last year in August after remaining out of action for more than a year due to a back injury, has dismissed a total of 47 batters in 14 matches played so far this year, which is the most by any bowler. He is all set to lead India’s bowling attack in the second Test as well, which is set to start on Friday (September 27) at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
