The Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday scripted history with a thrilling 2-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. The men in pink and blue pulled off an unbelievable heist, registering the highest successful run chase in IPL history. The task looked impossible at one point but England batter Jos Buttler made it happen with his grit, determination and self-belief.

RR’s situation was so grim that their win probability was less than 1 per cent in the 15th over. But Buttler shifted gear, smashing four boundaries to Varun Chakravarthy in that over, getting to his half-century off 36 balls. In the next 19 deliveries, he cruised to his 7th IPL ton and took RR to an impossible win with a 60-ball 107 not out.

Buttler took a single off the final ball of the innings, handing a 2-wicket win and scripting history. The players in the dugout just jumped off their seats and rushed straight towards the hero of the game and mobbed him in jubilation. The environment was ecstatic.

The youngsters bowed down to him while skipper Sanju Samson heaped massive praise on the English batter, saying, “I’m blessed to have Buttler on my side.”

Avesh Khan was equally thrilled. He featured in a 38-run stand with Buttler for the 8th wicket without even facing a single delivery. He said, “I had the best seat in the house to watch his batting.”

The video of the celebration was shared on the official X handle of IPL.

“We are still reeling under last night’s Jos Buttler special. And we believe, so are his teammates. Presenting RAW emotions captured on cam post a fairytale finish,” the caption of the video read.

Meanwhile, former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody lauded Buttler, saying his match-winning century against Kolkata Knight Riders highlights the need for professional cricketers to be elite athletes as well.

“Well, he kept going because he’s an elite athlete and it just shows, in today’s world of T20 cricket or any form of cricket, you need to be an elite athlete. You can’t just get away with just being a skilful player and that time has well and truly passed,” Moody said.

“He’s an elite athlete, that’s why he’s still standing for that very last ball to hit the winning runs. (It is as) simple as that, he’s coming back from an illness, he’s managed to bounce back pretty quickly because he is strong and physically strong,” Moody said.
