Royal Challengers Bengaluru After Losing IPL 2024 Eliminator: 'Cricket Isn't a Fairytale Always'
Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost to Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Eliminator by 4 wickets.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, on Wednesday, were knocked out by the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Following the exit, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted a video on X where captain Faf Du Plessis, along with the team’s icon Virat Kohli and wicketkeeper batter, Dinesh Karthik.

“Disappointed… the last six games have been the special, way we turnaround. So, when you do something like that, you hope to do something more special,” said Du Plessis.

Virat Kohli mentioned how the first half of their season was under-par and then they reached their standards as a cricketer. “Then, we started playing for our self-respect. The way we qualified was truly special.” Virat Kohli was RCB’s highest run-scorer in the tournament finishing the campaign with 741 runs from 15 matches. He is also the Orange Cap holder.

RCB had come to the playoffs after winning 6 of their last six matches. It was indeed one of the greatest winning runs in the history of IPL after they could manage one win in their first eight matches.

Dinesh Karthik, who probably played his last IPL innings on Wednesday, explained that he enjoyed the run and that cricket isn’t a fairytale always. “There’s always a hard in sport when things don’t go your way and today was the day. We should be proud of the boys. That’s what we can ask for in sports. The attitude is what matters.”

Asked to bat first, RCB had posted a total of 172 runs which Du Plessis thought was a ’15 runs short’, especially with dew coming in. None of the RCB batters could settle in apart from Indian batter Mahipal Lomror’s quickfire 17-ball 32 run innings.

While chasing, RR had a slow but steady start with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Scottish batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore stitching a 46 run partnership for the opening wicket. With RR batters not letting the required run rate get to their heads, the chase seemed to be a cakewalk for them until Mohammed Siraj took two wickets in the 18th over. But, in the very next over, West Indian hard-hitter Rovman Powell made sure Rajasthan Royal advanced to Qualifier 2 with an over in hand. Rajasthan Royals won the match by 4 wickets.

RCB is yet to win the IPL since its inception in 2008.

With RCB knocked out, RR will now clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai for the Qualifier 2. The winner of this contest will meet Kolkata Knight Riders, who have already qualified for the finals.
