Shan Masood Becomes 1st PAK Captain In History To Lose His First Four Test Matches
Shan Masood was appointed as Pakistan's Test captain last year after Babar Azam stepped down from his role following Men in Green's poor show in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Shan Masood, who was appointed as Pakistan’s Test captain last year after Babar Azam stepped down from his role in November 2023, created an embarrassing record on Sunday (August 25) by becoming the first Pakistani captain in history to lose his four Test matches. He broke the previous record of three defeats in a row by Javed Burki.

Burki, who led Pakistan in a five-match Test series against England in the summer of 1962, had lost his first three Tests against the Poms before managing to play a draw in the fourth Test.

Shan, who made his Test captaincy debut for Pakistan against Australia in Perth last year, had lost his first four Tests by 360 runs, 79 runs, 8 wickets, and 10 wickets. The first three losses were against Australia in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney, respectively, whereas the 10-wicket defeat came against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on Sunday (August 25).

The defeat in Rawalpindi was the first occasion in Test history when Pakistan suffered a defeat against Bangladesh. The Men in Green had won 12 out of 13 Tests played against Bangladesh before the Rawalpindi match.

In the Rawalpindi Test, Pakistan declared its first inning on 448 for 6, but it turned out to be a foolish decision as Bangladesh posted a total of 565 runs and managed to take a 117-run lead. In the second inning, Pakistan batters failed to deliver and were dismissed for 146 runs in 55.5 overs.

Except for Mohammad Rizwan, who top-scored for the hosts in both innings by making 171 and 51 runs, no other batter could manage to spend time at the crease in the second inning.

The target of 30 runs was successfully chased down by the visitors in 6.4 overs without losing a wicket. Former Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 191 runs in the first inning, won the Player of the Match award for his super show with the bat.

The second and final Test of the ongoing two-match series between the two teams is also scheduled to take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and will start on Friday (August 30).
