T20 World Cup: Pakistan Will Be Eliminated if India vs USA Fixture Gets Washed Out

After two wins on the trot, India and the USA are set to fight for the Super 8 qualification on Wednesday in Nassau County, New York. Both teams have been unbeaten so far in the tournament. The USA, playing the T20 World Cup for the first time, began their campaign with a comprehensive win over Canada in the tournament opener and then thrashed Pakistan in a stunning Super Over.

India, on the other side, have heavily relied on their bowling attack to remain unbeaten in the tournament so far. After an easy win against Ireland, they foxed Pakistan despite setting a low 120-run target.

With a better Net Run Rate, the men in blue lead the Group A points table while the USA are placed second. Their face-off on Wednesday holds utmost importance as the winner will book a Super 8 berth while the losing side has to win its last group stage game. The game is scheduled to be played at the Nassau County Stadium in New York but the weather is expected to interrupt the proceeding in the Big Apple.

What if the IND vs USA game gets washed out?

If the rain God has the last laugh and the game is abandoned, then both teams take away a point each and also the Super 8 berth. It’s a fact that a washed-out game will see India and the USA making it to the next round but then, it will be a wrap for Pakistan.

Pakistan, after losing to the USA and India, managed a victory over Canada to have something on the points table. Canada, placed 4^th on the table, have a similar situation ahead. They have one game left, against India on June 15. Meanwhile, Ireland are languishing at the bottom of the table with zero points and 2 matches to go – against Pakistan and USA.

Now that the last three teams in Group A – Pakistan, Canada and Ireland – cannot accumulate more than 4 points, their campaigns will end if there is no game on Wednesday due to weather. More than the Indian or the US supporters, fans of these teams would pray for uninterrupted action in New York on June 12.
