'The Show-stealer was BoomBall': Ravichandran Ashwin Lauds Jasprit Bumrah's Bowling Masterclass in Vizag Test
Ravichandran Ashwin lauded Jasprit Bumrah's 'Himalayan feat' of being the first Indian to be the number one ranked bowler.

Following India’s win over England in the second Test at Visakhapatnam, Ravichandran Ashwin lauded the performance of Jasprit Bumrah who finished with nine wickets in the Test to help India level the series.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin heaped praise on his team-mate for his performance. He said, “The real show stealer was BoomBall. Jasprit Bumrah has bowled extraordinarily. He is the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets and also the No.1 ranked Test bowler. I am a huge fan of his and this is a Himalayan feat.”

Bumrah was pivotal in India’s win against England in the second Test where he finished with nine wickets which included the big guns in the middle-order like Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes and others to put India in contention of victory.

With the bat however, it was the under-fire Shubman Gill who managed to score a fine century in the second innings to silence his critics. His knock came in at a crucial juncture as India was under pressure to set a good target.

Ashwin credited Gill’s ability with the bat by saying, “There’s no doubt about the amount of talent that Shubman Gill has. But the hundred justified just the kind of armour he had as a batter.”

The spinner also shared his happiness with the way the team performed as well. He added, “We came into the fourth day with it all being even-stevens. But our extraordinary vibe, energy and team performance helped us level the series 1-1.”

The veteran is still going strong and is currently one wicket away from the 500 Test wickets milestone and is looking forward to the rest of the series with excitement. He concluded by saying,”England played an exciting Ashes series against Australia in 2005 and I followed that with great interest. I am getting a similar feeling of excitement about this series as well.”

India will resume the series with the third Test taking place at Rajkot. The BCCI have announced the squad for the remainder of the series and notably, Virat Kohli will remain unavailable for the remaining games. The availability of Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul remains uncertain due to fitness concerns as well.
