India fast bowler Akash Deep left Bangladesh wobbling as he struck in successive deliveries right before the lunch break on Day 2 of the first Test in Chennai. Bangladesh were aiming to end the first session of play without any further damage after Jasprit Bumrah landed an early blow with the sixth delivery of the innings. However, Akash ruined their plans by first uprooting the middle stump of Zakir Hasan with a ripper and followed it up with another excellent delivery to uproot the off stump of Mominul Haque.
From 22/1, Bangladesh slipped to 22/3 with Akash on a hat-trick. The dressing room scenes told the story with India head coach Gautam Gambhir applauding the effort of his fast bowler and bowling coach Morne Morkel sporting a big smile.

Thanks to the back-to-back blows, Bangladesh ended the session at 26/3 in 9 overs, trailing India by 350 runs on Day 2 of the first Test. This was after Bumrah took just six deliveries to make an impact when he cleaned up opener Shadman Islam for two.
A total of seven wickets fell during the morning session itself, all by fast bowlers. India resumed on their overnight score of 339/6 with the unbeaten pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja aiming to build on their Day 1 exploits.
However, Ashwin had added just a boundary before Jadeja fell on his overnight score of 86, becoming Taskin Ahmed’s first victim of the contest. In walked Akash and he clattered four fours in an entertaining innings of 17 off 30 before falling to Taskin who then picked up his third scalp in centurion Ashwin who walked off to a warm round of applause having scored 113 off 133.
Hasan Mahmud then completed his five-for – 5/83 from 22.2 overs – with the wicket of Jasprit Bumrah, becoming the first ever Bangladesh bowler to do so in a Test on Indian soil. India were bowled out for 376 in 91.2 overs.
