West Indies came up with a resounding performance to get the better of New Zealand in a Group C match of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Defending a target of 150, the Caribbean outfit clinched a 13-run victory at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
Despite their triumph, the co-hosts were involved in a hilarious goof-up during the 12th over. The incident took place on the fourth delivery off the over of Roston Chase.

With Glenn Phillips on strike, Chase bowled a back-of-a-length delivery aimed at the stumps. Phillips played it towards the on side and wanted to take a single. But due to a miscommunication between with his batting partner James Neesham, both players were left stranded mid-way.
With a golden opportunity to effect a run out, West Indies wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran gathered the ball and aimed at the stumps. He could have easily thrown the ball to the fielder who rushed up to the stumps to collect the ball but instead, decided to have a shy.
Pooran failed to hit the stumps.

Neesham made it to the striker’s end but failed to capitalise on the reprieve as he was sent back to the dressing room in the 16th over.
He was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph for 10 runs. Phillips, on the other hand, carried forward his knock and tried his best to keep New Zealand alive in the game. Phillips’ pursuit, however, came to an end in the 18th over after managing 40 off 33. His innings comprised three fours and two sixes.
New Zealand fell short of the target by 13 runs and their hopes of advancing to the next round are now hanging by a thread.
Joseph finished with a four-wicket haul as Windies qualified for the Super Eight.
