In the lead up to the IPL 2024, India captain Rohit Sharma and Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty appeared together in an advertisement bonding over their mutual love for Mumbai Indians. India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, Suniel’s son-in-law, also made an appearance, but was given the cold shoulder on account of him being captain of MI’s rival Lucknow Super Giants.
With Rahul’s season over after LSG played their 14th and final league match on Friday night where beat MI, the IPL rivalry has now taken the backseat.
Now, both Rahul and his father-in-law Suniel will be cheering for Rohit who will now start gearing up for the T20 World Cup 2024 wherein he’s set to lead the Indian cricket team.
Rahul, who wasn’t picked for the T20 showpiece, on Friday says he will be glued to the television watching India play.
“I am on my father-in-law’s side now,” Rahul said during a post-match interview. “We both will be cheering for Sharma ji ka beta for the upcoming world cup. We will be glued to the television and sending all our love to the Indian team.”

IPL 2024 was ‘disappointing’ for Rahul as LSG finished sixth on the points table, failing to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in three seasons.
“Very disappointing (season). At the start of the season, I felt we had a very strong season and most bases covered. Couple of injuries happen which happens to every team every season but the guys who went away dented us a little bit. We didn’t play good enough collectively,” Rahul said.
“We couldn’t come together as much as we wanted to. Today was the kind of game we wanted to play more when the bowlers and batters both come together,” he added.
When asked if he envisages himself batting in the middle-order going forward, Rahul wasn’t sure.
“Maybe, maybe not, there’s not much T20 cricket coming up [for me] now,” Rahul said. “It depends on where I stand and what I need to do to get back in the team, I’ll think about what the team needs.”
