WPL 2024: MI's Shabnim Ismail Creates History With Fastest Delivery Recorded in Women's Cricket
MI's express bowler, Shabnim Ismail went on to create history as she set a new record for the fastest delivery in Women's cricket in the WPL fixture between DC vs MI.

Former South African international, Shabnim Ismail created history as she breached the 130 kph mark during the WPL 2024 fixture between Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians in Delhi.

Ismail registered the speed at 132.1 kph in the second delivery of her third over of the first innings. She pitched it on the full length and on the middle and off-stump line which the Delhi skipper Meg Lanning looked to flick but did not manage to get contact with the bat.

She also registered the fastest delivery bowled in women’s international cricket where she cranked up the pace to deliver one at 128 kph against the West Indies in 2016.

DC’s opener, Shafali Verma however did not show any fear to the pace as she went on to smack the South African quick for consecutive sixes in her third over in the powerplay. However, Ismail got the wicket in the next delivery as she cramped up the room by bowling on the leg-stump line and taking advantage of her pace to get the edge carrying towards the keeper.

Ismail had announced her retirement from international cricket to mark the end of her long career which went for 16 long years. She has picked up 317 wickets across all formats and played in 241 international games as well.

The match ended up being won by the Delhi Capitals who managed to set a target of 193 thanks to some fine knocks by Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues later on. Rodrigues had a shaky start but found her groove as she went on to score a brilliant fifty helping her side’s cause.

Mumbai were unable to get going with the bat as they lost early wickets to dent their chances of putting on a chase. This marks their second loss of the season as they now fall to third place on the points table with DC taking top spot followed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who will take on the winless Gujarat Giants in the next fixture.
