Yashasvi Jaiswal Surpasses Sunil Gavaskar to Set Staggering New Record In Series Opener Against Bangladesh
Jaiswal’s brilliant form continued in Chennai as he racked up a half-century in the first innings

Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has added another massive feat to his name after the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh.

The 22-year-old has broken several records since making his debut against the West Indies last year. His brilliant form continued in Chennai as he racked up a half-century in the first innings, but a disappointing 10-run knock at the MA Chidambaram Stadium wrapped up the youngster’s batting performance in his 10th Test.

Despite his poor performance in the second innings, Jasiwal ended up scripting history, becoming the first Indian batter to record a new Test milestone.

After his first 10 matches, Jaiswal now boasts 1094 runs, which is the most by any Indian batter ever. Sunil Gavaskar held the previous record, having scored 978 runs after 10 games.

The overall record for the same though is held by the cricketing great Sir Don Bradman. The late icon sits far atop with 1446 runs in his first 10 matches. West Indies legend Everton Weekes follows the Aussie great in second place with 1125 runs. Whereas, George Headley rounds off the top three with 1102 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal takes the fourth spot in the list for most Test runs after 10 matches. He is followed by Australia’s Mark Taylor with 1088 runs in the fifth place.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has established himself as a dependable opening batter for India in Test and T20I cricket in last two years. He was phenomenal in the debut series against the West Indies, where he scored a century in his first match. He was an absolute menace against England, racking up back-to-back double centuries in the second and third Tests played earlier this year. He was the first Indian batter to record such a feat against England in red-ball cricket. His impressive knocks, helped India win the series 4-1 at home.

As for the ongoing Test, the Indian duo of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant produced crucial performances for the hosts. Both added centuries in the second innings as India continue the pursuit of their first Test victory under the management of new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
