Atishi Marlena has been currently appointed as the Delhi Chief Minister after Arvind Kejriwal resigned from his position. Amidst these developments, the reports of Delhi Chief Ministers’ educational qualifications have been doing the rounds of the internet. This space articulates the academic qualifications of all Delhi CMs, starting from from Madan Lal Khurana to Atishi Marlena.
1. Madan Lal Khurana (CM from 1993 to 1996)- Fondly called Dilli ka Sher, Madan Lal Khurana secured his graduation degree from Kirori Mal College of Delhi University. He procured his post-graduation degree in History from the University of Allahabad. He embarked on his career in politics during his studies and was elected General Secretary of Allahabad Students Union in 1959.
2. Sahib Singh Verma (CM from 1996-1998): He was born on March 15, 1943, in a farmer family in Mundka village, Delhi. He had obtained a degree in Library Science from Aligarh Muslim University. Reportedly, at the time of admission, a professor had advised him to add Verma after his name.
3. Sushma Swaraj (CM from October 12, 1998 to December 3, 1998): Sushma Swaraj obtained a degree in Sanskrit and Political Science from Sanatan Dharma College located in Ambala Cantt. She studied law at Punjab University.
4. Sheila Dixit (CM from December 3, 1998 to December 28, 2013)- Sheila Dixit completed her primary education at Jesus and Mary School, Delhi. After this, she obtained a Master of Arts degree from the coveted Miranda House College of Delhi University.
5. Arvind Kejriwal (CM from December 28, 2013 to September 15, 2024)- Arvind Kejriwal is counted among the most well-educated Chief Ministers of the country. Born in the Siwani district of Haryana, he completed his primary education in missionary schools. He was a diligent student in academics since childhood and secured his Bachelors of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
6. Atishi Marlena- (CM from September 15, 2024, to February 2025)- She completed her school education at Springdales School, New Delhi. She completed her Masters in History at St Stephen’s College and then did a postgraduate degree at Oxford University on a Chevening Scholarship.
