Meet V Parekh, a 19-year-old student from Rajkot, Gujarat, has set the bar high for determination and hard work by scoring a perfect 100 percentile in the JEE Main 2024. With a staggering score of 290/300 in his first attempt at JEE Main, Parekh’s initial reaction to the 100 percentile result was sheer disbelief. Scoring a perfect 100 percentile is no small feat, and Parekh expresses his elation, stating, “I was absolutely shocked, and it was unexpected. My parents were also happy when they got to know about my results,” he recalls.
Parekh completed his Class 10 from Innovative Schools with an impressive 89.5 per cent and is currently pursuing his Class 12 from B.H. Rathod High School under the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB). His parents play a crucial role as his support system. His father is a marketing manager at a kitchenware company, and his mother is a homemaker.
Parekh’s journey towards JEE started in Class 8-9 when his fascination with mathematics and science combined with his admiration for the IITs led him to take up the challenge. His interest in coding steered him towards the field of computer science.
He began his JEE Main preparation in class 11, dedicating 5-6 hours to self-study during regular classes and intensifying it to 10-11 hours during revision time. His strategy was straightforward but effective – consistent hard work to reach his maximum potential on the exam day.
A student of Allen Rajkot’s classroom programme, Parekh credits the coaching institute for its well-structured modules, races, and relevant materials that built his confidence in different chapters.
During his JEE preparations, Parekh strategically chose specific chapters from various books. Notable resources include the Black Book for maths, M.S. Chauhan and Himanshu Pandey for organic chemistry etc. Additionally, Parekh found support in online resources, watching physics videos from educators like Ashish Arora, Vinay Uppal, Nitin Sachan, Janardhan, and Ambarish.
Reflecting on the tough preparation phase, Parekh shared, “Studying the whole day gave me a lot of stress, but I was able to overcome it by chatting with my friends who always supported me and motivated me.” Balancing JEE preparation with school exams was challenging, but he managed by allocating one day each month for board exam preparation.
Despite facing initial challenges with physics and mathematics, Parekh diligently overcame his weaknesses by solving the last two to three years’ JEE Main previous years’ questions and clarifying doubts. On exam day, he experienced anxiety but found solace in the support of friends and family, and completed the paper on time.
As for future aspirations, Parekh has set his sights on dream colleges like IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, and IIT Hyderabad. His strategy for JEE Advanced involves solving previous years’ questions and clearing doubts to strengthen weak topics.
Parekh offered advice to future JEE aspirants and said, “Never get stressed or depressed over low marks. Remember, it’s a challenge to improve and be better than yourself. Learn from every paper and trust the process.”
Beyond academics, Parekh enjoys reading, playing cricket, and watching anime.
