He is the first person in his village to appear for the civil service examination.

UPSC aspirant Pushpendra Srivastava has been preparing for 28 long years for the exam. Despite getting rejected many a time, he never loses hope. His story is similar to Gauri Bhaiya of 12th Fail. Many youngsters appear for government jobs and spend years preparing for them. Pushpendra’s determination to never give up showcases his dedication and willpower.

Pushpendra Srivastava hails from Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh. He grew up in Bambhauri village, where both his parents worked as teachers. He is the first person in his village to appear for the civil service examination. In 1995-96, he found that the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) were available. He took a chance and cleared the prelims exam on his first attempt. In the meantime, he also cleared the B.Ed.

He then also passed the MPPSC exam. After clearing the State Prelims, he decided to appear for the UPSC. That is one he relocated to Allahabad to prepare for the Civil Services Exam preparation. At the same time, he completed his Master’s in Mathematics. He believes if he had someone to guide him earlier, he would’ve begun preparing for a government job just after his bachelor’s degree.

Back in 1997-98, Mukherjee Nagar became popular for the preparation of the Civil Services examination. At that time, English was the main language used. Aspirants had only four attempts and the age limit for the general category was set for 30. Now, it has been changed to six attempts and a person can take the UPSC exam until they’re 32. He always cleared the UPSC Prelims but struggled with the Mains or Interview.

After running out his attempts, Pushpendra Srivastava didn’t quit but started preparing for state-level exams instead. Today, at the age of 48, he stays single. He said he would get married only after he made big in his career.

In the past 27-28 years, Pushpendra Srivastava faced several obstacles. He suffered the loss of both his sisters and father. Fortunately, his younger brother supported him. He encouraged Pushpendra to stay in Delhi and focus on exam preparation. Initially, Pushpendra also worked at coaching centres, but he soon realised it was distracting him. He then fully dedicated his time to preparing for the competitive exam.

Pushpendra Srivastava is residing in Mukherjee Nagar and sharing space with Vikas Divyakirti, a respected teacher and Manoj Kumar Sharma, the well-known IPS officer famously known as 12th Fail Manoj Sharma. Pushpendra proudly shares that many of his friends have succeeded in their careers.
