The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced a few changes to the board exam pattern for this year. Changes have been made in response to feedback from stakeholders, whether it is the removal of division, distinction, or the removal of Accountancy answer books. Check out the following major updates:
CBSE to Make Language Subject Compulsory for All Classes:
The central board had announced that going forward, languages will receive more attention and students’ academic performance will be evaluated using a Holistic Progress Card rather than a Holistic Report Card, as it did earlier. The decision comes in line with NCF, which now requires three languages to be taught during classes 9-10, including two Indian languages, and two languages to be taught during classes 11-12, one of which is an Indian language.
Board exams twice a year, highest score to be retained:
The Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, previously stated that the new curriculum framework (NCF) as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is complete, and textbooks will be developed for the 2024 academic session. According to the NCF, board exams will be held twice a year, with students allowed to keep the best score. Students may sit for a board exam in subjects for which they have completed coursework and believe they are prepared.
No declaration of overall division, distinction, or aggregate:
The CBSE has announced that no overall division, distinction, or aggregate will be awarded to students taking the Class 10 and Class 12 exams in 2024. The Board made the announcement after receiving multiple requests from candidates to inform them of the criteria for calculating the percentage of students. The board will not compute, declare, or notify the percentage of marks.
Special arrangements for students participating in Olympiads and sporting events:
CBSE has announced that students who are participating in national or international sports events or international Olympiads and are unable to take the Class 10 and Class 12 exams will be given special exams at a later date. However, there will be no separate or special examination opportunity for the compartment and practical exams. The aim of this decision is to encourage youth participation in sports and other academic competitions.
No answer books in accounting:
The Board has decided to discontinue the use of the answer books that were provided on the subject of Accountancy. The decision was made in response to feedback from stakeholders. This change will be implemented beginning with the 2023-24 board exams. “It is informed that from Board Examination, 2024 CBSE based on feedback received from stakeholders has decided to do away with the Answer Books wherein tables were provided in the subject of Accountancy. From Examinations-2024, normal lines Answer Books as provided in other subjects in Class 12 will be provided in Accountancy subject also,” the official notification reads.
