Apurva Star Tara Sutaria Feels She's ‘Stereotyped’ as a Glam Actress: ‘It’s Irritating…’ | Exclusive

Tara Sutaria marked her film debut with Student Of The Year 2 in 2019. Since then, she has become popular for playing a glamorous diva in her all films. However, her upcoming release Apurva, which sees her in the titular character, promises to present her in a completely new avatar and change the perception that the film industry and the audience have of her.
Recently, Tara revealed that her role in Apurva is something that she has been waiting to be offered right since the beginning of her acting career. And now, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, she tells us that being perceived only as a glamorous star frustrated her. “I don’t know if I got impatient but it was frustrating, for sure. Even in meetings with directors and producers this year, I couldn’t reveal, show, or talk too much about Apurva. People more so in our industry than the audience didn’t expect and see me doing something like this,” she says.
While she admits to feeling stereotyped, she shares that she never looked down on playing the hero’s love interest in her previous films. “I felt stereotyped as the glamourous girl all the time. Everyone says it also and it’s very irritating. Having said that, it’s fun to do all that and it’s a part of all of us young actors and actresses. But that’s just one aspect. People haven’t seen me like this but Apurva is the majority of who I am,” remarks Tara.
For her, becoming synonymous with the image of a glamorous star who didn’t get to play characters with a lot of meat in them partly stemmed from the way she portrayed herself on social media. “They don’t know too much about me. What they know is based on my Instagram and through my films. To be honest, I haven’t been a very sociable person till quite recently, which might have a part to play. The films I’ve done or the way I’ve been presented have been a reason for people to believe that I’m just a one or two-dimensional actress and that I can’t do other stuff, which has been extremely infuriating,” the 27-year-old admits.
Hoping for Apurva to mark a new inning for her as an actor, she adds, “I think Apurva is something I’ve had the capacity to do for a really long time. I hope more people get to know me a little bit better. There’s much more to me than they perceive and expect and Apurva is the beginning of that. It’s everything I wanted and so much more, which is why I hope everyone watches it. I hope to do way more films in this space.”
Apurva is all set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on November 15. It revolves around a young woman who gets abducted and tries to free herself from the shackles of a sinister world.
