Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who joined Manchester United from Real Madrid a couple of seasons ago, may part ways with the Manchester-based club this summer. Following the contract extension of manager Erik Ten Hag, the Red Devils are now busy in the transfer market. They aim to bolster their defence by signing Bayern Munich’s Mattijs de Ligt, who has previously worked under Ten Hag at Ajax.
Manchester United are also negotiating a deal for Joshua Zirkzee, another Dutch footballer who excelled for Bologna last season. In parallel to signing the young attacking prospect, the Old Trafford hierarchy is reportedly planning to offload Casemiro. They signed the former Real Madrid man for £70 million in 2022.
According to a report by L’Equipe, Casemiro has come under the radar of Al Ittihad. The Brazilian midfielder currently has a weekly wage of £350,000, though it should not matter for the Saudi Arabian club, which has signed several big players over the last few seasons. The French outlet claimed that Al Ittihad has already initiated talks with Manchester United over Cesemiro’s potential deal.
Casemiro spent nine seasons with Real Madrid and won five Champions League titles with them. He showcased his A-game in his debut season with Manchester United, featuring in 51 matches across all competitions. His performance was not up to par in the last campaign, when the club finished eighth in the Premier League table.
After Manchester United endured a humiliating 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace earlier in May, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher slammed Casemiro for his consistent poor form. The football pundit suggested that the veteran midfielder should consider spending the twilight phase of his career in Major League Soccer (MLS) or the Saudi Pro League (SPL).
Al Ittihad seems to have followed Jamie Carragher’s prediction by opening talks for Casemiro. If he decides to stay at Old Trafford, it will anyway become difficult for the 32-year-old to secure a place in the playing eleven. Manchester United already have a strong replacement for him in the form of Kobbie Mainoo.
