Wolverhampton: Marouane Chamakh scored in the first and last minute on Wednesday as Arsenal won 2-0 at Wolverhampton to hit back from its home loss to Newcastle in the Premier League last week.
Chamakh struck after 39 seconds when he headed in a cross from Alex Song, and the Morocco striker wrapped up victory in injury time with his eighth goal of the season to keep Wolves in the bottom three of the standings.
Arsenal stayed in third place with 23 points, five behind leader Chelsea. No. 19 Wolves have nine points, only more than last-place West Ham.
Arsenal, which lost 1-0 to Newcastle on Sunday, threatened to run away with the game in the early stages with its one-touch football but goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann kept the hosts in contention.
Arsenal had a perfect start through Chamakh's seventh goal of the campaign. Song made a break down the right before delivering a probing cross and Chamakh was first to react in sending his header past Hahnemann into the corner of the net.
Andrey Arshavin had a chance to double the lead when he raced clear of the Wolves defence but Hahnemann came quickly off his line to reduce the angle and he blocked the resulting shot.
Arshavin's low cross was then only half cleared by Richard Stearman and Cesc Fabregas' shot was blocked by the feet of Hahnemann.
Wolves came close to emulating Arsenal's quickfire start to the first half in the opening minute of the second period. Matt Jarvis' low ball across the six-yard box was met by Nenad Milijas but Bacary Sagna made a block to deny him the equaliser.
Wolves were saved by the woodwork in the 64th as Arshavin's low drive beat the dive of Hahnemann but rebounded off the post.
Kevin Doyle almost rescued a point for Wolves when his low shot flew inches wide but instead Chamakh sealed the win with a clinical finish in the final seconds.
