Madrid: Real Madrid have drawn up an ambitious plan for the future, in which Arsenal and England star Jack Wilshere has been listed as one of five young transfer targets for the Spanish giants.
According to a report in the Marca under the headline 'Operation Madrid 2014', a leaked club document has outlined their future plans, whereby they will focus on buying young stars who are already playing at the top level, such as Wilshere.
The other potential signings named are Borussia Dortmund striker Mario Gotze, Lille's Belgian winger Eden Hazard, Barcelona defender Rafinha Alcantara and Athletic Bilbao winger Iker Muniain.
The policy is in stark contrast to the club's earlier Galactico policy, when under then-president Florentino Perez, Real Madrid spent record amounts on signing big names like Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane between 2000-06. Even during Perez's second term at the Bernabeu club, Madrid spent a combined 160 million Pounds on Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema. For Ronaldo, Manchester United were paid a world-record 80 million Pounds.
However, apparently the officials at Real are now keen to spend 30 million Pounds on promising youngsters rather than break the bank and spend more than 50 million Pounds on established stars, as they have done in the past.
Currently playing second fiddle to a dominant Barcelona in Spain, the change in long-term policy and the purchase of some of Europe's best young players is apparently aimed at taking Real to the top of world football by 2014.
However, Madrid are sure to face a fight from the likes of Barca, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal in their pursuit of these young stars.
Only last week, Wilshere said he intended to stay with the Gunners for the rest of his career, and the 19-year-old has a contract which runs until 2015.
