Unai Emery seems to have taken not much time to gain the trust of Aston Villa fans. The Premier League side was just above the relegation zone when Emery was appointed as their manager in October 2022. Now after two years, they have been enjoying a dream run in the Champions League. After overcoming Young Boys in the campaign opener, Aston Villa secured an astonishing victory over Bayern Munich on Friday, October 3. The fans at Villa Park burst into an emphatic celebration after the hosts registered a 1-0 win in the crucial fixture.

Unai Emery was proud of his team’s performance but appeared to be quite calm after the final whistle. As per a report published by The Sun, the Spanish manager shook hands with Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany and went on to applaud the home fans. Emery then, reportedly, shared a quick hug with one of the members of his coaching unit and high-fived a few fans before going into the tunnel. The Aston Villa players were in a jubilant mood as they enjoyed every bit of the moment. They hugged each other in a congratulatory gesture while also appreciating the support of the crowd.

Aston Villa took the lead in the Champions League fixture in the 79th minute, thanks to a brilliant long-range strike by Jhon Duran. The 20-year-old forward received a top-quality pass from Pau Torres when Manuel Neuer was way out of his usual position. Duran read the situation well and fired the ball over the goalkeeper. Emiliano Martinez was another hero for Aston Villa. Bayern Munich registered a total of seven shots on target but none of them could beat the Argentine goalkeeper.

About Jhon Duran’s heroic strike, Unai Emery said at the post-match conference, as per The Sun, “We are working with him. Most important is his attitude. He’s available to play 90, 60, 30 minutes. He’s been focusing each minute he’s playing. Today we had two very good strikers. It’s fantastic for him and the team.”

Aston Villa have already played six Premier League games this season. They have collected 13 points with four wins and one draw. They will next face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, October 6.
