Jerome Valcke wants Sepp Blatter to stand again

Rio de Janeiro: FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke wants Sepp Blatter to reverse a previous pledge and stand again for the presidency of world football's governing body.

The 77-year-old Blatter, who has been in office since 1998, was handed a fourth, four-year term in 2011 after saying he would stand aside in 2015.

But Blatter has been dropping hints that he wants to remain in the job, and his closest aide says that should be the case.

Valcke told a conference at the Confederations Cup that "the current president is very good. Why should he not run again? Why should he not remain as the FIFA president? I mean, he's doing a great job."

Valcke, FIFA's top administrator, asked: "Why change a team which is a good team and a winning team?"

What's your reaction?
