After months of speculation, Andre Trindade’s transfer saga to Liverpool has seen a new twist. Fulham have been active competitors alongside The Reds in securing the services of the Fluminense midfielder this season. However, the transfer talks have currently stalled as Fulham failed to offload their current midfielder Joao Palinha. The Portuguese midfielder remaining at the Craven Cottage will most likely cause the West London side to pull the plug on their deal of securing Trindade. It is still plausible that the Brazilian will most likely end up in the Premier League this season but it most likely won’t be either Liverpool or Fulham that sign him.
Liverpool have been interested in Andre Trindade since November last year. On their website, the club discussed the player reaching a ‘verbal agreement’ with the Fluminese President to leave the Brazilian side at the end of the season. Trindade recently won the Copa Libertadores final against the Boca Juniors in Rio de Janeiro. This was his club’s first title in history. The match was closely followed by Liverpool supporters who were eager to see the player sign for the Anfield-based side. At the time, Trindade was considered to be extremely important for the Brazilian squad as they hoped to keep him for the future but Joao Palhina’s unexpected stay at Fluminense changed everything.
Joao Palhina was initially expected to leave Fluminese this winter. A possible move to Bundesliga side Bayern Munich was traced by news media outlet, Independent. However, the Bavarian side just could not seem to agree on a fee with Fulham over the Portuguese player’s transfer. This puts Liverpool back in contention for acquiring Andre Trindade but they are certainly not the only club. Manchester United have reportedly also barged in on the race to secure Trindade’s signature.
Brazilian news outlet Trivela have suggested that Manchester United could reach an agreement to sign the Fluminense midfielder ahead of Fulham. Regardless of the interest, it is going to be extremely difficult for the Red Devils to sign the Fluminense midfielder on a long deal due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns. They are currently already dealing with a bloated squad and are in an improbable position to pay an additional fee of €35 million to sign the player. United will most likely have to depend on a short-term loan deal if they want Trindade.
Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag is looking to go a different route as he lines up four Bundesliga players as potential targets. The quartet of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Thomas Muller, Timo Wener and Serhou Guirassy are currently on the Dutchman’s shortlist. It is believed that these transfer interests are influenced by the arrival of British Billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe after his minority takeover of Manchester United. It will be interesting to see what the January transfer window has in store for football fans.
