Manchester United are reportedly looking to make French midfielder Adrien Rabiot their next big signing this summer. French media outlet L’Equipe claimed that the English club’s board should now return to the charge of bringing Rabiot to Old Trafford. The 29-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired last season.
Erik ten Hag reportedly once spoke to the French international directly in 2023. Rabiot almost joined Manchester United last season before signing a one-year deal with the Bianconeri. Given his prowess in the midfield, the Frenchman will not likely be short of suitors this summer. Other European powerhouses, such as Real Madrid and AC Milan, are also understood to have the French international on their radars.
A few weeks ago, transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano announced that Adrien Rabiot would not sign a new deal with Juventus.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Italian journalist claimed other clubs had an opportunity to sign the Frenchman. “Let’s see if some other clubs will try to enter the race. Because as of now, Rabiot is still not extending his contract at Juventus, so it could be a big opportunity,” he said. Romano also said that no deal surrounding the Frenchman was near completion. “At the moment, I’m not aware of anything advanced or in concrete stages yet, but in general, I think for many clubs, it could be a big possibility,” he added.
Adrien Rabiot moved to Italy in 2019, following a transfer agreement between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Juventus. The Frenchman made a huge impact in Turin, representing the Italian side in 212 games.
The L’Equipe report also claimed that Manchester United had sent an offer to PSG for 23-year-old talent Manuel Ugarte. The French side eventually rejected the initial bid from the Red Devils.
Given the situation, Manchester United are now reportedly looking to consider a different structure for the proposal. The new deal involves a loan with an ‘easily achievable’ purchase option. The English club is also interested in bringing Xavi Simons to Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag’s side has reportedly been working on Simon’s arrival since last season, having offered €50 million to PSG. But no agreement was reached between the two parties.
