Johannesburg: A relieved Diego Maradona says Argentina was "too forgiving" against Nigeria in its World Cup opener.

Maradona says it seemed like his players "couldn't see the goal" as they squandered numerous scoring opportunities in their 1-0 victory.

Still, Maradona says the main thing is that Argentina won a big game — which was his first as a coach at the World Cup. He also said credit should go to Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, who made spectacular saves against Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain.

Maradona said everything will be fine if the missed opportunities meant Argentina was saving some goals for Thursday's game against South Korea.
