Modric reaffirms desire to join Chelsea
"He threatened me - he said if I didn't accept the club's stance, they would make me sit on the bench or in the stands."

London: Luka Modric has hit out at Daniel Levy after the Tottenham chairman reaffirmed his desire to keep the Croatian playmaker at White Hart Lane, despite firm interest from Chelsea.

The Spurs No.14 had previously admitted that he would like to leave the club for pastures new, with the Stamford Bridge side his favoured destination, as it would allow him to remain in the capital.

But Tottenham, who received a £ 22 million bid from their London rivals, have issued a series of statements insisting that Modric, nor any of the A-list players, will be leaving the club this summer.

Ahead of his return to England for pre-season training, the Croatian playmaker was involved in clear the air talks with the Spurs chief, after which Levy revealed issues had been resolved, and that the player understood the club’s position.

However, despite Levy’s insistence that they held a 'very good conversation' and that 'once he's back with his team-mates everything will be fine', the Croatian has quickly rebuffed what he claims has been 'twisted account of what happened', before reaffirming his desire to leave the club.

"A lot has been published in the press about the meeting with Levy, who gave the public a twisted account of what happened," Modric told Sportske Novosti. "I must say that I am genuinely disappointed about what Levy said to me.

"He threatened me - he said if I didn't accept the club's stance, they would make me sit on the bench or in the stands."

"I hope that eventually he will understand the situation and that we will reach an agreement and go our separate ways in an appropriate manner."

Tottenham’s stance has been that, having signed a contract extension last summer, keeping him at the Lane until 2016, that they would not entertain any offers for their prized asset.

But Modric is adamant that when he held discussions with the Spurs chairman over the new deal, Levy had promised to discuss any offers received from other clubs.

"I reminded the chairman of our gentleman's agreement when we were in Dubrovnik last summer and I agreed a contract extension with Tottenham," Modric continued.

"Then I had an open chat with Levy - that if a bigger club came in with a concrete offer, we would consider it and agree the best solution for all concerned.

"The chairman said, 'Okay, we'll sit and talk [about any offers]'. Now Levy doesn't want to talk to me and said there is no possibility that I can leave Spurs.

"He didn't care about what I was telling him. It all only convinced me further that I was right to consider moving on to another club."

Now Modric, who manager Harry Redknapp conceded has been left ‘confused’ by the matter, feels that a move to Chelsea would be a ‘dream’, and that he has not considered the thought of being denied the move.

"I haven't thought about it at all [not being allowed to leave] because it would definitely not be good for anyone.

"I have already told the chairman that last summer he said we would find a mutually satisfactory agreement if a club like Chelsea came in.

He added: "There is no doubt that Chelsea want me - they sent a concrete offer to Tottenham. I know that the new Chelsea boss said he wants me in his team. Of course I am flattered by this interest in me - it's a club that all players dream of joining, fighting for every competition available.

"It wasn't a snap decision - I talked a long time with my family and people whose opinions I respect. I thought about it, weighed it all up, and finally decided this was the best option."
