Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer. Having lost Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid on a free transfer, the French giants now look to restore some firepower. They have kept their eyes on some big names and are keen to revamp the squad in this transfer window. According to a report by the French outlet L’Equipe, Fernandes has come under the radar of PSG, who aim to rope in a midfield option this summer. The 29-year-old Portuguese stalwart served as the captain of Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United last season.
This isn’t the first time that PSG have shown interest in Bruno Fernandes. Back in 2021, the club’s ex-boss Thomas Tuchel had spoken highly of the Portuguese midfielder. The German coach even revealed that he urged PSG to try and secure Bruno’s signing before his move to Manchester United.
“We fought hard to have a connection to him and to bring him to our team. I got made aware of him more in detail, so we watched more and more games about him and followed him and tried to be in touch with him to make it happen,” Tuchel said as per multiple outlets.
“Obviously, he decided to sign for Manchester United and I was never personally in touch with him, but we tried and he went another way. It is bad for us that we have to play against him,” he added.
Earlier in May, Bruno Fernandes was heavily linked with an exit from Manchester United. As per the Independent, the player had become frustrated by the sense of drift at Old Trafford. Bayern Munich reportedly tried to make the most out of the complicated situation to secure Fernandes’ signature. Eventually, the Bundesliga club saw a shift in management as Thomas Tuchel departed to make way for Vincent Kompany. Following that, no advancement was made on Bruno’s potential signing.
Bruno Fernandes has proven to be a key component of the Manchester United squad in the last few years. He joined the club from Sporting Lisbon in 2020 and took the Premier League by storm in his debut season. Manchester United might have struggled to win major titles but Bruno put up some commendable performances across competitions.
