David Beckham, the iconic figure in English football, has brought his life and career to the forefront in a new Netflix documentary. This four-part series takes viewers on a journey through his iconic moments on the pitch while also shedding light on some undisclosed details of his personal relationships. Meanwhile, the documentary features a segment where Victoria Beckham candidly discusses her husband’s alleged infidelity, which she has spoken for the first time publicly. David also shared how their relationship faced intense scrutiny when he was accused of an affair during his time playing in Spain in 2003. While no names are mentioned in the series by the couple, Rebecca Loos and Sarah Marbeck had claimed to have affairs with the retired athlete during that period.
As per The Sun, the former Spice Girl singer told in the documentary, “It was the hardest period because it felt like the world was against us. We were against each other if I’m being completely honest. You know, up until Madrid sometimes it felt like us against everybody else but we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either. And that’s sad. I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me. It was a nightmare. It was an absolute circus and everyone loves it when the circus comes to town right? Unless you’re in it.”
When asked if she “resented” her husband during that challenging period, Victoria Beckham responded with honesty, admitting that she did. She described it as the unhappiest time in her life. She also shared that she chose to internalize the pain to provide support to her husband’s career and added, “It wasn’t that I felt unheard because I was always mindful of the focus that he needed.”
The Netflix documentary on David Beckham also shows newspaper headlines and news bulletins from the time when his alleged affair was making headlines. One particular sensational headline that appeared during that period read, “S*x with Becks.” The documentary highlights how these reports took a toll on Victoria, whom David had married in 1999. The former midfielder claimed that “There was some horrible stories which were difficult to deal with,” and noted that it was the first time their marriage had faced such immense pressure.
When the director Fisher Stevens asked how the couple survived the difficult time, David Beckham recalled, “Every time that we woke up we felt, there was something else and you know we felt that, we both felt at the time that we were not losing each other but drowning. There were some days I thought, ‘How am I going to go to work? How am I going to go on that training pitch and look as if nothing is wrong?’ I felt physically sick every day.”
Meanwhile, David and Victoria Beckham, who now have been together for 24 years, are the proud parents of four children, three sons named Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, as well as a daughter named Harper.
