How does Chime's SpotMe work?
SpotMe covers you from $20 to $200 when you overdraw your account. Chime's SpotMe service is available for eligible users who make a single deposit of $200 or more each month. When you overdraw your account, your new balance will reflect in the negatives, but you won't be charged an overdraft fee like with other major banks. When you get paid again or load your card, Chime will automatically apply it to your negative balance. Keep in mind this only applies to debit card purchases and cash withdrawals. This will not cover Pay Anyone transfers, ACH transfers, or Chime Checkbook transactions. Your limit is based on a variety of factors, such as your deposit activity and account history. While Chime doesn't offer cash advance, there are plenty of eligible apps that work seamlessly with Chime.
Using SpotMe
Launch the Chime app. This looks like a white c with a green background. Chime is available for iOS in the App Store and for Android in the Google Play Store. Make sure you're eligible. If your debit card is activated and you have a $200 qualifying monthly direct deposit, you'll be able to enroll.
Open the Settings. This is the cog icon in the top-left corner.
Toggle on iPhone Switch On Icon "Overdraw fee-free". This will be underneath the SpotMe header. You can find the amount you're able to overdraw next to Your Limit.
Make a purchase. If you're still waiting for payday, but you need to purchase something immediately, Chime can cover you. If you try to overdraw your account more than your limit, Chime will simply decline the transaction. You won't need to pay any fees.
Wait for your next deposit. When money is deposited into your Chime account, it will automatically be applied to your negative balance. You won't receive any overdraft fees.
