Go Online to Submit Your Change of Address Form
Quickly change your address online by visiting the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles website. Address changes become effective within 2 business days for changes made through this website.
Look for the "What You Need" menu on the website homepage and click on the Change of Address option.
Review the Procedures options presented and click "Continue." Enter your Texas license plate number and the last 4 numbers of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for your registered vehicle.
Confirm that the vehicle information displayed is the vehicle that belongs to you by clicking "Yes." If it is incorrect, resubmit your information by clicking your browser's Back button and entering the correct address.
Enter your new street number, name, city and ZIP code. Choose your county, then click "Submit" when finished.
Examine the revised information on your screen to ensure that what you provided is correct. Print a copy of this address for your records.
Continue changing your mailing address for other vehicles you have registered in Texas or return to the main menu if you are finished.
Visit In-Person to Submit Your Change of Address Form
Change your Texas vehicle registration address in person by visiting your local Texas county tax office or a subcontracting vendor, such as a grocery store.
Find your county tax office by visiting txdmv.gov/wheretogo/tax_offices.htm and choose your county tax office from the pull down menu. Search your telephone book for "County Tax Office."
Call the telephone number to learn the hours for making in-person address changes. Inquire about subcontractor locations. These offices may have evening and weekend hours for in-person address changes.
Bring your Texas identification and vehicle registration receipt to the location where you will change your address.
Ask for the Change of Address Form upon your arrival. Provide the information requested on the form. Include your vehicle's information. Submit your vehicle's license plate number, year, make and model. Notate the correct Vehicle Identification Number and the Title Document Number found on your vehicle's renewal registration form. List where the vehicle is garaged, if it is not at your new mailing address. Sign and date the form then return it to the attending clerk.
