How to Fly in World of Warcraft
How to Fly in World of Warcraft
Are you wondering how you can fly in World of Warcraft? Flying is a faster means of transportation, but there are a few things you need to do before you can fly. This wikiHow article teaches you not only how to acquire and use a flying mount, but also how to fly as a druid.
Steps

Meeting the Requirements

Reach level 30. At this point, you will be able to purchase the Expert flying skill, if you have not already done so.

Go to a flying instructor. The NPCs that can train you to fly are located in the major cities, like Bralla Cloudwing in Stormwind and Maztha in Orgrimmar.

Purchase the Expert Riding skill. This will cost 250 gold and will let you fly at 150% movement speed. If you reach Exalted reputation with your faction, then you can purchase the skill for 200 gold.

Purchase a flying mount. It will cost you 50 gold. If you are in the Alliance, you can purchase a Gryphon from Tannec Stonebeak. If you are in the Horde, visit Orgrimmar and purchase a Windrider from Drakma To fly in Zereth Mortis, you need to complete the achievement "Unlocking the Secrets", which is a meta-achievement containing 6 other achievements. To fly in Battle for Azeroth zones, you need the Pathfinder, Part 2 achievement.

Flying on Your Mount and Upgrading It

Use the flying skill. Open up the Collections Journal and click on the "Mounts" tab. You will find the flying skill there as a usable spell.

Learn how to control your mount using a mouse. Right-click on your mouse to aim your view. Move forward by clicking on the left button of your mouse, or the forward key on your keyboard.

Control your mount using the keyboard. This will allow you to cruise long distances or scout out an area. Here is how you can move around on your mount: Press W to move forward. Press S to move back. Press A to turn left, and D to turn right. Press Q to strafe left, and E to strafe right. Press the space bar to tilt up. Press X to tilt down.

Reach level 45 to unlock Master Riding. It will cost you 5,000 gold (or 4,000 if your reputation is high enough), and give your mount 310% movement speed flight.

Know what areas you can fly in and how. Once you reach level 60, you will be able to fly almost anywhere since previous requirements have been removed. The only places you cannot fly are: Oribos, the Maw, and Korthia (Shadowlands) Argus (Legion) Tanaan Jungle (intro to Warlords of Draenor) Isle of Thunder and Timeless Isle (Pandaria) The Molten Front (near Firelands) Tol Barad (PvP area introduced in Cataclysm) The Darkmoon Faire and Darkmoon Island Exodar, Azuremist Isle, and Bloodmyst Isle Silvermoon, Eversong Woods, and Ghostlands Most instanced content (like scenarios, dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, and arenas).

Flying as a Druid

Purchase the Expert Riding skill. This will cost 250 gold and will let you fly at 150% movement speed. If you reach Exalted reputation with your faction, then you can purchase the skill for 200 gold.

Know the limitations of your flying travel form. While flying comes with many benefits, such as increased movement speed and no threat generation, it also comes with some drawbacks as well. Here are a few things you should be aware of before using your travel form: You cannot use it while fighting. You cannot use it indoors. You cannot use it while already in another form. It will not benefit from Mount Equipment or Guild Perks (which make your riding faster).

Open your Spellbook and use Travel Form. Once you know Expert Riding, your Travel Form will automatically shift you into a flying form, like a raven. Increase your flying speed by buying Master Riding at level 45.

Flying in Shadowlands

Complete your Covenant storyline. You'll want to do this because the Chains of Domination campaign quest is locked until you progress with your Covenant.

Get to Renown 44 with your Covenant. Completing the Covenant storyline will definitely give you renown, but if you're still short, try running dungeons, killing world bosses, and completing callings.

Complete The Last Sigil from the Chains of Domination campaign. Once you finish The Last Sigil, you'll get an item in your bags called the "Memories of Sunless Skies" that will unlock Shadowlands flying on all the characters on your account. You'll then be able to fly in Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and Revendreth. You cannot, however, fly from one zone to another since flying is not permitted in the In-Between.

What's your reaction?
