Starting a business venture can be an exciting and challenging phase for any individual. They have to get over many obstacles before finally establishing a successful business enterprise. A footwear trader from Ongole City, named Veeraya, proves how one can establish a flourishing business despite hurdles. Ongole is a city in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. According to the Local 18 report, Veeraya started a footwear shop named Veeraya Roadside Footwear Shop with just 30 pairs of shoes. This shop is popularly known as the common man’s footwear shop. Over time, his business took off, and he now sells about 3000 pairs of shoes in his shop. He has been working in the business of footwear for 30 years. Veeraya had zeroed in on a street location for setting up his footwear shop, opposite the Bapuji Complex. In today’s time, many shopkeepers sell shoes in footwear retail shops, but Veeraya prefers to sell them on the roadside.

Veeraya talked about the challenges of the footwear business with News18 and said, “Due to the changing times, many models have come into the market, so we have to create shoe models to impress the common people”. He further said, “People can get footwear worth Rs 50 to Rs 200 from here, and those who work as labourers are very interested in buying from my shop.” The affordable price bracket of Rs 50-200 explains why his shop is said to be made for the common man.

Veeraya faced a lot of troubles in his business during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that his business suffered a state of total collapse during that time. According to Veeraya, his family initially faced financial difficulties, which escalated. He has not lost courage despite these problems and continues to work on his business in the same way he used to do before the crisis. As seen in the video, he has taken utmost care of his shop and kept the shoes neatly stacked in rows.
