CHENNAI: India’s premier production unit of the Indian Railways, Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has achieved its best ever production of 1,511 coaches surpassing the target during the production year ended on 31.03.2012. ICF produced 1,503 coaches during the corresponding year of 2010-11.According to a press release, 405 EMUs (Electric Multiple Units), 48 air-conditioned Metro coaches for Kolkata, 141 DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit), 39 stainless steel bodied DEMU coaches for export, 162 air-conditioned coaches and 716 conventional (non-AC) coaches were manufactured.The production includes state-of-art clean green AC/DC Electric Multiple Units for Mumbai Suburban traffic, stainless steel bodied Emission Test Car for measuring Emission levels of diesel locomotives and specially designed DEMU for Jammu & Kashmir valley, the release added. The release also stated that with the expansion coming up, ICF would be manufacturing technologically upgraded coaches of stainless steel shells and high speed bogies and will be moving towards green technology.
