State says medical fraternity should take action, Medical Council says it has no jurisdiction.

New Delhi: A day after it came to light that a doctor couple in Trichy allowed their 15-year-old son to perform a caesarian delivery, no one seems to quite know what to do about it.

While the state says the medical fraternity should take action, the Medical Council of India says it has no jurisdiction in the matter.

The doctor couple, Murugesan and Gandhimati, who allowed their Dilipan Rai to conduct the caesarean for a place in the Guinness book of world records, may go scot-free.

On Wednesday, the Indian Medical Council condemned Raj's attempt but stopped short of taking a concrete action.

The Medical Council of India also says it is helpless due to lacunae in Medical Council Act.

"If you go strictly into the Medical Council act then its probably not empowreed to handle a unique case like this,” said former IMA president Sanjiv Malik

The authorities too seem to be acting shy.

An inquiry is happening at the government level, I would not say anything now,” said Joint. Director of Tamil Nadu Health Dept, Ezhilarasi.

However, medical students across the country have deplored the attempt at world record, which could have cost a life.

What's your reaction?
