The water level in the Godavari river at Bhadrachalam increased to 31.8 feet on Saturday evening. On Friday, the water level in the river was at 25 ft only.
About 25 villages have remained cut off from the rest of Khammam district for the past two days as Cheekupalli stream in Wajedu mandal is overflowing following heavy rains in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
The road traffic between Bhadrachalam and Bhupalapatnam has also been hit. Taliperu and Sabari rivers are in spate. “We are ready to face Godavari floods. Rehabilitation centres have been set up in eight mandals to shift people from low-lying areas. Essential commodities have also been stocked to distribute them to flood victims,” said Syam Prasad, in-charge sub-collector of Bhadrachalam.
